Joy Valley is a faith-based orphan home and informal school in a very poor part of Kayole, Nairobi. There are about one hundred children of all ages living in Joy Valley, some of them HIV-related orphans. Its visionary director, Jared Ogutu, is fully commited to giving these children a hopeful future through education.

However, the reality in this part of Nairobi is very though as NGOs are mostly absent and official regulations are hard to meet.

Joy Valley is actively pursuing some income generation, organizes sewing classes and is generally open for new initiatives. It also serves as a church.

Joy Valley has an urgent need for donations. See the website for more information.

We visited Joy Valley during our journey and made some donations. The manager, Jared, is 100% committed to the plight of the children, but sadly this orphan home has a lot of problems. I recommend this to experienced people, they can make real positive change here. In fact, I am going back myself in February, 2012.
